Jordi Saurat, Biologist by the UAB, has been working as a researcher and later on in Sales and Product Management Roles in different industries such as Medical Devices, Personal Care and Chemistry. Currently he is the Exports Director at Quimivita for the Personal Care Business Unit, a Barcelona‑based company specializing in innovative ingredients and solutions for the cosmetics, food, and pharmaceutical industries. Quimivita is proudly represented by Omya in the USA, reinforcing its commitment to innovation, quality, and long‑term collaboration across this market.
Abstract -
Hydrocolloids are, in essence, the architects of texture in the personal care industry. These long chain macromolecules (usually polysaccharides) have a special affinity for water: they not only absorb it, but also ‘trap’ it to modify the rheology of a formula, transforming simple liquids into elegant gels, sumptuous creams or stable serums.
In the current context of ‘Clean Beauty,’ these natural ingredients have evolved from simple thickeners to functional raw materials that provide hydration, skin barrier protection and a superior sensory experience.
