2026 SWSCC Educational Meeting - March
March - SWSCC Educational Event - 03/25/26 Where: Dimassis - 2001 TX 121 Grapevine, TX 76501 Topic: Comprehensive Analysis of Heat Protection Treatments for Hair: Safeguarding the Cortex and Cuticle; Hair undergoes various forms of both surface and interior degradation during episodes of high heat exposure. This degradation can be observed at the micro scale via various imaging techniques and differential scanning calorimetry (DSR); and at the macro scale via sensory and processing changes. This study explores the contribution of various polymeric hair care ingredients to both surface and interior heat protection in an effort to help the cosmetic formula better select protective agents to meet their heat protection goals. Who: Evan Waddell is a Technical Service Scientist in Dow’s Personal Care team supporting a variety of beauty brands and contract manufacturers in North America. Half of his 16 years at Dow Corning/Dow have been spent supporting personal care applications, while the remainder was spent in a variety of projects supporting electronics and lighting, building safety, anticounterfeiting, and industrial foam control. He earned his Bachelor of Science in Chemical Engineering from the South Dakota School of Mines and Technology. In his spare time, he enjoys reading, writing poetry, and gaming. Cost: Member - $50
