Topic - CBD/Hemp: Consumer Safety and Confidence

Marielle Weintraub, Ph.D. is a founding board member and the current President of the U.S. Hemp Authority. The U.S. Hemp Authority Certification Program is our industry's initiative to provide high standards, best practices and self-regulation, giving confidence to consumers and law enforcement that hemp products are safe, and legal. In an effort funded by the U.S. Hemp Roundtable, and joined by organizations such as the Hemp Industries Association, industry leading firms, top-tier testing laboratories, and quality assessors developed comprehensive guidance for growers, processors and brand owners of hemp. In addition to her advocacy work with the U.S. Hemp Authority, Marielle is also the Director of Scientific Research and Development for Zilis, LLC, a hybrid social marketing company researching, developing and selling cannabinoid-based products. Marielle was introduced to hemp and CBD in 2016 and she quickly brought the hemp industry’s need for valid and reliable testing to Covance (2016) and continued to drive development of hemp-specific testing and standards until she left Eurofins in 2019. Marielle is very active in many dietary supplement and hemp industry trade associations. In addition to being President of the US Hemp Authority, Marielle is a board member of the US Hemp Roundtable, a member of the American Herbal Products Association- Cannabis Committee and a member of the United Natural Products Alliance- Hemp Extracts/CBD committee. Marielle earned her M.S. and Ph.D. in Behavioral Neuroscience from Texas Christian University focusing her research on Alzheimer’s disease pathology, specifically the accumulation of amyloid-beta plaques and prevention of cognitive deficits resulting from peripheral inflammation.
