 Hair undergoes various forms of both surface and int
 erior degradation during episodes of high heat exposure. This degradation 
 can be observed at the micro scale via various imaging techniques and diff
 erential scanning calorimetry (DSR)\; and at the macro scale via sensory a
 nd processing changes. This study explores the contribution of various pol
 ymeric hair care ingredients to both surface and interior heat protection 
 in an effort to help the cosmetic formula better select protective agents 
 to meet their heat protection goals.&nbsp\;
 Who:&nbsp\;Evan Waddell&nbsp
 \;is a Technical Service Scientist in Dow’s Personal Care team supportin
 g a variety of beauty brands and contract manufacturers in North America. 
 Half of his 16 years at Dow Corning/Dow have been spent supporting persona
 l care applications\, while the remainder was spent in a variety of projec
 ts supporting electronics and lighting\, building safety\, anticounterfeit
 ing\, and industrial foam control. He earned his Bachelor of Science in Ch
 emical Engineering from the South Dakota School of Mines and Technology. I
 n his spare time\, he enjoys reading\, writing poetry\, and gaming.
