Title: New Molecular Architecture as a Path to P
 erformance and Sustainability
 Abstract:
 The growing demand for sustain
able and environmentally friendly materials in the personal care and cosme
tic industries has propelled the need for innovative solutions in emollien
t formulation. This presentation explores the application of the 12 princi
ples of green chemistry in the synthesis of a novel polymeric emollient\,
designed to enhance the safety\, efficiency\, and sustainability of manufa
cturing processes. By integrating green chemistry principles\, such as the
use of renewable feedstocks\, energy-efficient reactions\, and waste mini
mization\, we demonstrate how these principles can drive the development o
f emollients that meet both performance and environmental standards. Throu
gh case studies and experimental data\, we will showcase the strategies em
ployed to reduce the environmental footprint of the polymer's synthesis\,
optimize reaction pathways\, and ensure the final product's biocompatibili
ty and biodegradability. This work highlights the intersection of chemistr
 y and sustainability\, offering a roadmap for the future of eco-friendly p
 olymeric materials in consumer products.
 Aaron Peterson Bio
 Aaron’s
career path is untraditional in the sense that he didn’t know what he wa
nted to do when he grew up.&nbsp\; However\, due to great connections and
opportunities given\, he has had a wonderful career in the personal care a
nd wellness industry for the past 22 years.
He got his start as a lab te
chnician at TwinLab.&nbsp\; There he learned how to test supplements in th
e QC laboratory including Vitamin C titrations\, basic botany\, and ran th
ousands of quality checks using a UV-VIS and an occasional TLC.&nbsp\; Two
years later\, Aaron pivoted cosmetic chemistry at Nu Skin. As an avid bak
er growing up\, he was familiar with following recipes and getting a littl
e creative with making alterations on the fly.&nbsp\; Aaron progressed qui
ckly\, looking for opportunities to grow his skill set\, eventually moving
to Idaho where he spent 3 years working for two different companies on th
e bench: Northwest Cosmetic Labs (now Elevation Labs) and Melaleuca.&nbsp\
; After getting married and starting a family\, Aaron had an opportunity t
o come full circle and work again for Nu Skin as a Senior Scientist.
 Thr
ee years later\, Aaron pivoted into the “dark side” of the industry an
d joined the world of technical sales for Ross Organic (now part of Azelis
). Now\, Aaron has now surpassed his time in the lab with 12 years in raw
material sales (Barnet Products being 8 of those years) and his biggest ro
 le to date\, Director of Sales for P2 Science.&nbsp\;
 Aaron joined the S
CC in 2005 and immediately was put to work getting sponsors for the IMWSCC
newsletter and helping organize the golf outing.&nbsp\; 3 years later he
was invited to be chair elect which was a 4-year commitment to be chair-el
ect and then chair (2 years each).&nbsp\; Most recently\, he has been on t
he national board serving as an Area III Director. Aaron helped hone his n
on-traditional background through taking a series of UCLA extension course
s and attending SCC Scientific seminars and courses as often as occasion w
 ould permit.

Next Gen Initiative - Jacklin Hoffelt
 The NextGen ini
tiative was launched in 2015 to address the needs of early careerists\, yo
ung professionals and undergraduate/post-graduate students in the cosmetic
s and personal care industry. Jacklin Hoffelt\, Global Key Account Technic
al Manager with SNF Holding\, has previously served as the committee chair
for the SCC NextGen Initiative.&nbsp\; She currently serves as the commit
tee chair for both University Outreach and Chapter Concerns with the Natio
 nal SCC.&nbsp\;
